Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Marlene Arrona says the bridge is closed in both directions Saturday after the 7 a.m. wreck.
Images and video of the crash posted online show two cars were fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the span. A preliminary investigation indicated a auto was traveling the wrong way, heading westbound in an eastbound lane.
Helfin tells the Long Beach Press-Telegram (http://bit.ly/1HfFvkH ) that the pickup driver died.
Two additional male drivers were transported to area hospitals in unknown condition, including the suspect, police said.

The bridge is expected to remain closed in both directions for several hours as the investigation continues. Multiple people also suffered injuries in the crash, including a police officer.
