Later that day, Canada beat the USA team 4-3.

Canada retained their IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship title by beating Finland 2-0 in the final on Sunday.

Connor McDavid’s first goal of the world hockey championship proved to be golden.

Ellis finished with a goal and an assist through five games in the tournament, while posting four shots on goal in 16:11 of ice time in the Gold Medal Game.

There was some consolation for the Finns when 18-year-old Patrik laine was named tournament MVP. I’ve not often seen Canada play like taht. “Unlike our group match Canada scored first and then they were in control”. But the Canadians knew they could not play that style and expect to win against a Finland team that sat back and lulled its opponents into making mistakes. “We played probably one of our worst games of the tournament and they played great”, Jokinen said. Canada’s last consecutive wins came in 2003 and 2004.

Russian Federation took the tournament’s bronze medal earlier on Sunday, shutting out the United States with the score of 7-2.

Russia’s hopes of a first home triumph since the Soviet Union won in 1986 were dashed by their 3-1 reverse to the Finns in the semifinals.

“I think we just relaxed today”, said Calder Trophy finalist Panarin.

Sergei Mozyakin had two goals and an assist, while Viacheslov Voinov, Ivan Telegin, Yevgeni Dadonov and Shipachyov also scored.

CSKA Moscow centre Ivan Telegin, SKA winger Yevgeni Dadonov and Chicago Blackhawks Artemi Panarin were all on target for Russian Federation in the second while Boston Bruins player Frank Vatrano scored for last year’s bronze medallists the USA.

Russian Federation were in full control of the game, taking a 4-0 lead in the second period before countering any hopes of a United States fightback. This country has gone on a remarkable run with Olympic gold in 2010 and 2014 and now back-to-back world championships.
