New Assam Govt to take oath on 24th
However, infiltration still continues to remain an abominable headache for India. We want that it must be completely sealed so that there is zero infiltration from across the border, the 53-year-old Sonowal said.

On the election victory, Sonowal gave the credit to his party and its alliance partners for “taking together all ethnic groups, giving them respect and representation”. Sonowal was answering the questions of reporters when he said the election promise of BJP to seal the Indo-Bangla border would be completed within 2 years.
The minister further said the strategic alliance between the BJP, AGP and the BPF highlighted this historical blunder of the Congress.
In the results announced on Thursday, Congress lost its government in Assam, the party-led government in Kerala and finished third in Tamil Nadu. “Plus we will create awareness among the people to prevent infiltration”, he had said. “We had state-level leaders who took decisions”.
Senior journalist and political commentator Kuldip Nayar said BJP was replacing Congress as the dominant national party.
Saturday’s editorial also mocked the Modi government, saying it would, in the future, even claim credit for the success of whoever wins the U.S. presidential election.
Ram Madhav, BJP general secretary in-charge of Assam, said: “The Congress is being rejected everywhere in the country and they should draw lessons from this…”
He said the party and its workers failed to convey to the people the good works done by its government in the last 15 years which resulted in the defeat.

In the 126-member Assam Assembly, BJP won 24 seats and was leading in 38 (total 62), AGP won 6 and was leading in 8 (total 14) and BPF won 7 and was leading in 4 seats (total 11). One, whether BJP, in office nationally under Narendra Modi, could extend its influence beyond its traditional strongholds.Second, whether Congress, which dominated Indian politics for decades after independence in 1947, could arrest the steady decline in its fortunes. “Assembly results clearly show that people of India are intolerant towards Congress party because Congress was not ready to accept the verdict of the people”, he told newspersons. “Due to their support our minority candidate won”, he said.
