The International Olympic Committee is taking full precautions to make sure everyone is sexually safe and will supply 450,000 condoms to the 10,500 visiting athletes and staff headed to Rio this summer.

Sixty-seven percent of the total 7.4 million tickets have been sold, Olympics organisers announced, up from the 50 percent mark last month which had caused some concern.

Ticket director Donovan Ferretti gave the update on Friday as the tickets designs were also unveiled for the first time. “Now that we know the pairings, we are selling the tickets very fast”.

Every Thursday Rio 2016 continues to put new tickets on their website for Brazilians to purchase.

When presenting the tickets, Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman remarked that these are the tickets for “the first Games in South America, so we wanted to do something differently”.

Mr Ferretti said the eventual number available would be between 6.6-6.7 million as the capacity of venues for swimming, rowing and canoeing have been reduced. “In Brazil, we’re going to sell many more tickets a month ahead, or four or five days before the event”.

Of the two million unsold tickets, about 800,000 are for football, Brazil’s favorite sport.
