That is until a Madonna tribute performance during the May 22 airing of this year’s Billboard Music Awards.
Fortunately, it doesn’t look as though Madonna is letting the criticism get her down, posting a string of defiant comments on her Instagram page.
Were fans justified when trying to put a halt to Madonna’s tribute at the Billboard Music Awards?
Including this immaculately-timed promo from BET, tweeted right after the awards, which teased the BET Honors’ upcoming remembrance of The Purple One as the real tribute fans need to see. “I get the premise is to award people for their accomplishments, but is it really?” he said in Monday’s post.
Wonder, in a purple scarf, later joined her for Purple Rain as the audience at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas sang along. She ended by holding her award aloft and declaring, “Rene, this one’s for you, the show must go on”, echoing the title of the Queen song she had just performed.
“I nearly broke my (expletive)”, Grande told reporter Sibley Scoles, but she got credit for keeping her hair intact. The show began with Britney Spears performing a medley of her hits.
He wrote on Twitter: “Argentinian Beliebers I would like nothing more than to bring the #purposetour there but until the legal conditions change there I can’t”.
“I don’t know about these award shows”, he writes.
“Even though I did not want to cry, he understands it’s okay because it is therapeutic and you can’t take so much pressure”, she continued.

LGBT rights organization GLAAD said in a release following the performance that copies of the shirt will be sold on Lovato and Jonas’ national tour with proceeds going to LGBT organizations in North Carolina. In the opening monologue, the rapper poked at this year’s Academy Awards, which featured all-white acting nominees.
