Chase Froese disappeared Friday evening while swimming off Porter Beach, said Tyler Brock, an Indiana Department of Natural Resources representative. Her two friends, who are also from Illinois, were rescued by an off-duty lifeguard. Two of the swimmers were safely rescued and brought to shore while the third swimmer disappeared from sight.
Conservation officers and the U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search by water late July 31 and resumed the search at sunrise August 1.
Conservation officers are expected to continue their search when conditions become suitable for boat and sonar equipment, the release stated. Indiana Conservation Officers will be conducting a joint investigation with the National Park Service. Officials said the search is now a recovery effort.
