The recent rumors have indicated that the Galaxy X will have a 4K display that will fold up, similar to a wallet.

There is also a possible phone on the horizon for 2017 in the Galaxy X, which could be the first handset to utilize a rollable display like this, but up until now the rumors have pointed to a less ambitious foldable design.

How many mobile users out there are clamoring for a foldable screen?

Samsung’s and LG’s display divisions are expected to showcase their latest products this week at the US Trade Show in San Francisco.

Recently, Samsung has announced its intention to increase OLED production capacity starting with next year while LG Display intends to expand to OLED light panels.

The 2016 Society for Information Display (SID) conference takes place at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco from May 22 to 27.

The screen is perceived the “future display technology” since it can also be used for tablet PCs and TVs.

“Some of the products to be unveiled at the event will serve as an indicator for what kind of technology Samsung will choose for the next Galaxy smartphones and other digital devices down the road”, says The Korea Herald.

The foldable OLED screen weighs just 5g and is 0.3mm thick – that’s without a touch layer on top of it.

Samsung’s foldable screen, which will likely be used in an upcoming “foldable” Galaxy lineup, features a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a 2,560×1440 resolution weighing 5 grams (0.18 ounces) and measuring 0.3mm (0.01 inches) deep with a radius curvature of 10. This implies that the new display technology from Samsung can be rolled into a circle with a radius of 10 millimeters.

Meanwhile, Samsung will also launch its AMOLED display panels measuring 13.3 inches and 14 inches for laptops. While these displays will not be flexible, these are said to be extra thin, which help big in reducing the weight and size of laptops in the near future.

Samsung has been using Super AMOLED displays for most of its flagship phones, culminating with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that was released earlier this year.
