“TDS 2015 Bengaluru is significant as almost half of the apps in the Tizen Store are created by developers from India”, said Dr. Aloknath De, Chief Technology Officer and VP-Samsung R&D Institute India Bangalore. This may give the Gear A a unique selling point over other round smartwatches, such as those from LG and Motorola. A smartwatch with a circular display and a bezel that rotates, allowing you to perform certain actions without touching the screen itself.

The smartwatch lineup from Samsung has never featured a round bodied smartwatch and the Gear A is being hailed as a big shift.

The Korean company is likely to reveal the Gear A at its Galaxy Unpacked event on August 13th, when it will also tout its curved screen Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5. The operating system it will run on has also been rumored for quite some time but those rumors have been put to rest as the company has also confirmed that it will be running on the Tizen 2.3.1.

Also mentioned during the talk is a new control scheme, which uses a rotating bezel ring and crown to move through the smartwatch’s menus. It will be based on the Tizen interface by Samsung with an Exynos 3472 dual-core processor to power it up. When it comes to memory, the gadget will come equipped with 4GB of built-in storage capacity.
