The city of New Orleans lost bids to host Super Bowls twice in the past three years. And Los Angeles, which just four months ago was granted approval to bring the Rams back to Southern California, will soon begin building a state-of-the-art, $2.6 billion stadium in Inglewood that will be ready for the 2019 season and the 2021 Super Bowl.
Los Angeles last hosted Super Bowl XXVII in 1993, when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills 52-17. The city’s new $1.4 billion retractable roof stadium is scheduled to open in 2017.
The choice of Los Angeles had been widely anticipated following the NFL’s decision earlier this year to sanction the move of the St Louis Rams back to the Californian metropolis.
New Orleans was going for its record 11th Super Bowl, but it was not in the cards.
Indianapolis did not bid on any of the three Super Bowls awarded on Tuesday.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank said rewarding owners who make big capital investments – and taxpayers who help fund the stadiums – is good business for the NFL.
“I can’t think of a better place to host the Super Bowl than right here in our world-class community”, said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. Los Angeles was seen as a likely pick for hosting either the 2021 game, since the Inglewood stadium is expected to be completed in 2019. “They’ve basically rebuilt the stadium, and it’s ideal for South Florida”.
If you want to start making your Super Bowl travel plans, the National Football League has announced a new list of big game destinations.
The NFL Tuesday awarded Super Bowl LIV to South Florida in 2020.
No team has ever played in a Super Bowl in its stadium, although the San Francisco 49ers (Super Bowl XIX in Stanford Stadium) and L.A. Rams (Super Bowl XIV in the Rose Bowl) played in their home markets.

“The facts are indisputable”, he said. New Orleans was only bidding on Super Bowl LIII (the same game Atlanta won) because the SuperDome already has prior commitments on the dates of the other Super Bowls.
