The basketball tournaments at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games 2016 will start on August 6, 2016 (Saturday) and continue till August 21.

Organisers of this summer’s Rio Olympics have said 67% of available tickets have been sold.

“The tickets are being printed by the same United States specialised graphic design company that made the ones used in London 2012”, said Rio 2016 Head of Ticketing, Donovan Ferreti. “Now that we know the pairings, we are selling the tickets very fast”. Andrada said the goal of the organizing committee is to sell over 40 percent of Paralympic tickets before the Olympics open, after which he expected sales to pick up during and after the Olympics. “In Brazil, we’re going to sell many more tickets a month ahead, or four or five days before the event”.

He also said sales outside Brazil are on track, although he could not give specific numbers.

“This group has had some successes already, one of these was the indictment of 10 people who were reselling tickets illegally over social media”.

Organizers announced several years ago that about 7.5 million tickets would be available for the games. Two million tickets remain on sale and every Thursday a new batch of tickets, including for some of the most sought-after events, goes on sale to Brazilian residents.
