Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton win Washington state primaries

Donald Trump won Tuesday’s Republican presidential primary in Washington state, according to the Associated Press, putting the party’s presumptive nominee on the cusp of crossing the delegate threshold required to formally secure his party’s nomination. In a number of states where Democrats are making plays to beat incumbent Republicans – including presidential battleground states OH and Pennsylvania – Clinton’s popularity is below 30 percent, according to Morning Consult surveys.

Clinching California, the largest remaining delegate prize, differs in scope and significance for the Democrats seeking to capture their party’s nomination for the presidency.

The strategy may already be working.

And, what? Convincing America that Trump’s not normal before he normalizes himself is critical to Clinton so she can draw contrasts between herself and The Donald?

Trump’s campaign celebrated the victory as building momentum toward his expected fall match up with Clinton. Hillary Clinton left a family-oriented fund raiser at a home in Atherton Wednesday night. Clinton “is a strong advocate for women and the poor”.

Then, in an interview with The Washington Post, Trump suggested that the Clintons may have been involved in the 1993 death of Vince Foster, a former aide to Bill Clinton and a friend of Hillary Clinton, even though more than five investigations, including one conducted by Republican special prosecutor Kenneth Starr, concluded that Foster committed suicide in a Virginia park.

Trump was alluding to theories over the years that have been circulated in tabloid publications, in the depths of the internet and in books by the Clintons’ foes. In an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll released this week, Trump’s support among Republicans in a head-to-head contest with Clinton jumped to 86 percent, up from 72 percent a month earlier. The vast majority are backing Clinton.

Simpich said in an email Tuesday that he will ask the judge for an expedited hearing and hopes to be granted a hearing as soon as this week. So why do they need Clinton for any of that? It’s probably not a good idea to disappoint voters so close to Election Day, but that’s exactly what happened when hundreds who really wanted to show their support were turned around from the rally held at Hartnell College Farmworkers, students and other supporters stood patiently in line for hours, while protesters got on a bullhorn and tried to create friction with the faithful.

And in a darkly ironic twist, Clinton’s longtime friend Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who has raised enormous sums for both her and her husband, is now also under investigation by the FBI for potential public corruption stemming from questionable donations from a Chinese billionaire that is also connected to the Clinton Foundation.

The difference in 2016, of course, is Hillary Clinton’s position in the drama. “Getting into the gutter with him is an absolute waste of time”.

“I don’t have any plans towards that at this moment”, she added of campaigning for Trump. The PAC backing Trump is just getting off the ground.

Clinton will also depend on an army of surrogates to try to combat Trump without having to respond to him herself.

“How many are going to be picking up that additional piece of paper?” Trump was able to leverage extensive coverage of his campaign by the media to combat their attacks while spending little money on advertising.

This is the second debate refused by Clinton, after she declined to participate in a debate with Sanders on Fox News.

“We want someone who knows what’s going in the world”.

That is more than a long shot and the Sanders camp has started to consider how best to preserve “the Bernie brand” when the nominating contest ends.
