Obama’s younger daughter, Sasha, is a freshman at Sidwell Friends, and the family is planning to stay in the District at least until she graduates in a few years.

The new Obama home was last sold in 2014 to Joe Lockhart, once a press secretary for former president Bill Clinton, and his wife, Giovanna Gray Lockhart, a magazine editor.
President Barack Obama is slated to leave office next January, and he’s already got a new place lined up after living in the White House for the past eight years. Their oldest daughter, Malia, plans to attend Harvard University. Lockhart and Gray, who handles projects for Glamour Magazine here, are heading to NY where Lockhart is the National Football League executive vice president for communications.
Obama was reportedly considering Kalorama or Embassy Row, but decided on Kalorama, the neighborhood just east of Massachusetts Avenue NW.
The 8,000 square-foot house on Belmont Road has an estimated value of $6.35 million.
While the White House has made no official confirmation of this move, sources told Politico on Wednesday that the deal has been made. Historically, Kalorama has been a popular area for former presidents, including Woodrow Wilson and William Howard Taft, to settle.
Spacious rooms with hardwood floors, white marble countertops, his-and-her master bathrooms and a terrace with formal gardens, the house is picture of luxury and it doesn’t come cheap.

The mansion features nine bedrooms and nine baths and was built in 1928. Ted Kennedy also lived there until his death.
