Illinois’ unemployment rate inched up to 6.6 percent in April, while the state added a net 5,400 jobs last month, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) said Thursday.

American Canyon’s 4.6 percent jobless rate in April is Napa County’s highest, followed by the city of Napa’s 4.1 percent and Yountville’s 3.9 percent.
The non-seasonal adjusted rate for Hawai’i was 3.1 percent in April, down from 3.2 percent in March.
Of the 11,200 jobs gained across the state in the past month, the leading sectors were professional and business services, and leisure and hospitality, while financial activities and construction lost a small number of jobs.
About 259,000 people were unemployed in April in Los Angeles County, which has a workforce of about 5 million. But the gains were offset by losses in trade, transportation and utilities and health care and social assistance.
Over the past year, the states with the biggest gains in payroll employment were California, up 450,200; Florida, up 254,500 and Texas, with a gain of 189,600 jobs.
The April jobs were the most for a month since September 2013.
Minnesota employers added 15,600 jobs in April, a huge monthly gain. The other 41 states were seen as having stable unemployment rates from March to April.
L.A. County’s unemployment rate continued its rapid descent in April, falling to its lowest point in nine years.
The national unemployment rate is 5.0 percent.
“It is encouraging to see the large number of people entering the labor force – and finding work”, said Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.
Wisconsin’s total employment based on preliminary estimates was a record high in April, growing by a statistically significant 61,100 year-over-year.

There were 439,400 unemployed people in the state last month, about 56,000 more than the year before.
