Donald Trump, Christie speak to supporters in NJ
As Christie is on Trump’s vice presidential short-list, the fundraiser to benefit Christie’s dormant campaign was a sort of audition for the No. 2 slot.

National security is a prominent issue in the 2016 United States presidential campaign, with Trump saying President Barack Obama’s administration has facilitated extremism by showing a lack of global leadership. Along a busy street running by the armory, a few dozen quiet Trump supporters stared down a raucous gathering of around a hundred anti-Trump demonstrators.
“Today we had a bad tragedy. And Donald Trump is my friend”. She used a different term. State party officials said they didn’t immediately have a tally of how much either event had raised.
Trump grinned as the crowd broke out into uncomfortable laughter, clearly getting the joke that Trump may or may not have intended.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump continued his love-hate relationship with Chris Christie during a fundraiser-rally for the New Jersey governor. “And Chris, you can’t even give them a table and a seat, that’s awful”. “That’s bad. But he’s a great guy and he’s a great governor…”
The billionaire businessman also had a little fun with the New Jersey governor. “We know him well”. He said he told his wife: “We never ever make a mistake by standing with your friend”.
Christine, 55, elaborated for her daughter: “She’s always saying to me that, “Mom, everybody’s so anxious about women’s rights” – not that we aren’t, because we’re women – “but we won’t have any rights if there’s no country”, because we’re anxious for our safety”.
In naming him to his possible new role, Trump said of Christie: ‘Governor Christie is an extremely knowledgeable and loyal person with the tools and resources to put together an unparalleled transition team, one that will be prepared to take over the White House when we win in November’.
“You can call it free trade…you can do whatever you want to call it”, he added.
Donald Trump and Gov. Chris Christie were expected to address a crowd of supporters Thursday evening at the New Jersey National Guard Armory. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., in a general election.
Now Trump, eager to show support for the Republican Party, is making what some members of the GOP see as a helpful gesture.
At times, Trump rambled, moving from topic to topic at whim, but striking all his familiar themes. “Every unit you make that you sell into the United States you’re gonna pay a 35 percent tax”.
“We have to be here and we have to be a voice against this man who really might be our next president”.
“He can say whatever he wants to say”, she said, later adding that if “you pick a fight with a bully, you know, you are going to be pulled down to their levels”. Johnson filed suit against Trump a year ago, alleging he raped her as a teenager. “And we’re going to have people come into our country, but they’re going to come into our country legally”. “I think he’s going to rebuild our military”. One carried a sign that read “Don’t Be Duped by Donald”.
“These dummies say, ‘Oh, that’s a trade war.’ Trade war?”
“He tells it like it is”.

“This is not like some political marriage”, Christie said.
