Ricciardo rules in Monaco as he sets the pace
Renault have chose to bring forward the introduction of their new unit by one race after a successful Barcelona test, although they are not yet in a position to fit new engines to all four cars on their roster.

“It is always good to, but I didn’t feel like we had to because we’re in that frame of mind where there is no tension”. I think it’s just that we’re getting old!
“I’m sure we want to keep Nico, and Nico wants to stay”, Lauda told Sky Sports News HQ’s Craig Slater at the Monaco GP.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel was third quickest.
Ricciardo finished fifth in Monaco previous year and now holds the lap record of 1 minute 18.063 seconds around the tight-turning street circuit.
“Things can happen, like they did a year ago”.
That is a tall order given how crushingly dominant Mercedes has been in qualifying since 2014.
“We can still turn up our engine, but we don’t have six tenths of turning up in the engine”. “Toto [Wolff] will handle it and I’ll watch it”.
Like Vettel, Hamilton has also only won the Monaco GP once, with McLaren in 2008. It’s close. It’s not a power circuit.
“Between the two of us it [the crash] is a thing of the past now”, he said at Wednesday’s driver media conference.
“I couldn’t be happier coming here to this track to let off some steam”. I just haven’t had the equipment to win the world title yet, but I’m hopefully searching for that in 2017 and hopefully Red Bull can give us something we can really fight for.
“I think we are in a pretty good window now”.
There was clearly a problem – as Button made clear – but it was no surprise on a morning of drama that also saw Jules Bianchi’s family initiate legal action against the sport’s governing body, the International Motoring Federation (FIA), his former Marussia team and the Formula One Group. “The three stop was done with the best of intentions”.
“Ah, yep”, he laughs.
Nico Rosberg threw down the gauntlet to Lewis Hamilton as they take their simmering feud in to Sunday’s biggest race of the year.
“It’s certainly one where you can find a little bit more if you’re willing to push it on the limit”.
And he recognises the challenge and the opportunity that Verstappen’s arrival represents.
“Just “we have all respect for you” and he said the same”. He will be seeking to replicate the feats of fellow Australian Mark Webber, who had a special affinity with Monaco himself, winning the event twice during his career (2010, 2012).
“It was a bit of a scrappy day. We were lucky in a way that it just damaged the vehicle”. A piece of me is like “well, this is my backyard now” so I know it better than a lot of the guys.

“Even when you know you have to stick them in the vehicle, you tear them off and your hand is in the air, it’s flying around and you are trying to pull it back into the cockpit to stick it somewhere”, he said.
