Various outlets reported the Mets backed out over concerns regarding Gomez’s right hip. However, manager Terry Collins and the players were a little behind the news.

Neither Flores, nor anyone in a Mets uniform, nor even the greatest scriptwriter in Hollywood could have anticipated how Flores’ night would end. For now, the team plans to give him a day off after each set of two and then perhaps three consecutive starts over the next week to 10 days…. Surely, a player normally does not to listen to fans, but, unfortunately for Flores, it was true.

The Mets could not muster anything together in the bottom half of the eighth, and that remained the story in the ninth, and the game was then headed for extras.
Carlos Torres pitched the twelfth for the Mets, and retired the side on three strikeouts. 898 OPS. However, right-handed hitters are batting. He kept the ball away from both. As Taylor approached the fence, he looked up and watched the ball travel into the Party City Deck for the game-winning home run.
