Not only is UFC coming to Cleveland for UFC 203 this fall, Miocic will have his first Heavyweight Championship defense against Alistair Overeem in the main event of the pay-per-view, scheduled to take place on September 10th at the Quicken Loans Arena.

It appears as though Miocic and the UFC have other ideas however, as the newly-minted heavyweight champion goes straight back into fight camp to prepare for an extremely tough first defence.

Miocic was very emotional when he won the heavyweight championship and dedicated it to the city of Cleveland.

“Now, with wins in six of his last seven bouts, the new champ is staying busy with a bout against the Netherlands’ Overeem, a former Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 champion who is showing the best form of his UFC career at the moment”. Huge news for Cleveland fans.

The UFC has been making a concerted effort of late to keep the title holders as active as possible, with ten title fights in just five months and it looks as though that trend will now continue.

The Cleveland native rose up the ranks after trampling heavyweight veterans such as Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski, in devastating fashion.

Overeem has recovered from his upset losses to Antonio Silva, Travis Browne and Ben Rothwell.

This will be Ohio’s fourth title fight. After the win, he immediately called out the UFC to give him a title fight because he deserves it.

Miocic captured the title with a first-round knockout of Fabricio Werdum in Brazil on May 14.
