The Last Guardian Game Director, Fumito Ueda, has re-confirmed that The Last Guardian is still slated to launch in 2016.
In an interview with Edge, Ueda said that “this is the year we will see the game’s release”.
One of Trico’s powers was also revealed in the magazine feature. Edge reports that one of the main mechanics is that the human boy wields a mirror shield that has various uses, writing: “Holding circle “illuminates” the device, shining what is ostensibly an ornate crosshair onto any surface it’s aimed at…” In the game Trico, the giant dog-bird thing, has the ability to fire a deadly stream of red lightning from his tail. Here’s the catch, though. Previews of the game have begun to unravel the mystery behind The Last Guardian’s gameplay, and it appears to be a refreshing take on the adventure and platformer genres. It’s something that’s hard, and completely different.
The following video is a chat from IGN about their five favorite things from their hands-on experience with the game. Originally announced for the PS3 back in 2009, very little details have been given about the game since then. We’ve given this creature its own desires, so depending on what action it wants to take, that affects everything, including its animation. It’s not like a normal humanoid character, ‘ explains Ueda.
When asked if he was concerned if this could cause problems while playing, or if fans might react negatively, Ueda mentioned he had thought some could be turned off.
Ueda also makes it clear that you never control Trico directly and that he will not always do what you want – especially at the beginning of the game, when his relationship with the boy has only just started. “I think I’ve had enough of them”, Ueda said.
