On Tuesday, National Football League owners awarded Super Bowl LIV to South Florida over Tampa and Los Angeles, which both placed bids to host the championship game that year.

The league took the unprecedented step of awarding three Super Bowls on a single day, games that will be played in 2019, 2020 and 2021. This will be the eighth Super Bowl hosted by the city of L.A. and the first since 1993 when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills at the Rose Bowl.
Minnesota’s new U.S. Bank Stadium – built for the Vikings mostly with taxpayer money – opens this year, and will play host to Super Bowl LII (52) after the 2017 season.
The last time Atlanta had hosted the Super Bowl was back in 2000 for Super Bowl XXXIV between the St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans.
“It’s a wonderful day for our city and franchise and I know the people of Atlanta and all of Georgia will deliver a spectacular Super Bowl celebration in 2019”, said Atlanta Falcons owner, Arthur M. Blank. Fellow NFL owners gave Dolphins owner Stephen Ross the nod based on his pledge to spend a half-billion dollars, and after hearing a pitch from Hall of Fame running back Larry Csonka.
South Florida hasn’t hosted a Super Bowl in a decade.
Team owners were meeting in North Carolina and future Super Bowl sites were among the items being discussed.
The NFL loves to reward cities that take care of their teams by way of a new stadium.
That field won’t be ready to open until 2019, and because of that, it sounds like a good decision to award the city of angels the 2021 game, rather than the 2020 one that they had been hoping for. “We have had 10 Super Bowls and they have been successful”.

Atlanta last hosted a Super Bowl in 1999, Super Bowl XXXIII, between the Titans and Rams. Miami got Super Bowl LIV with a re-furbished stadium. “So I think an extra year might be good”.
