Microsoft (MSFT) Looks to Launch VR Capable Xbox in 2017
Microsoft will unveil a new “Slim” model of the Xbox One at E3 next month, for release later this year.

Xbox One did get a software update in January that brought a new Gamerscore leaderboard and improvements for the Home screen and activity feed. The more powerful “Scorpio” will also be aiming at 4K resolution gameplay though there are now no plans to improve the consoles I/O or read-write speeds to match the resolution, which might mean longer loading times for games using at 4K displays. The company also noted that over 2 million players have competed in the Xbox One version of the sports-based auto game since it launched on that platform in February.

The other device is reportedly more advanced, with in-built app gaming support for universal Windows Store apps.
At the current time Microsoft has not confirmed anything, but with E3 just around the corner the company may reveal more details in the coming weeks. There may be more frequent hardware and game launches that are offer both forward and backward compatibility across Windows 10 and various Xbox models, including the Xbox One Slim.

It will be interesting how fans will receive the new console if it does come out in the market without a physical disc drive.
