The Triple-A auto club predicts almost 1.5 million Ohioans will travel 50 miles or more from home this Memorial Day weekend.

Air travel is expected to increase to almost 3 million people. Elaine Beno told KPCC they are projecting the biggest Memorial Day weekend travel in over a decade.

Statewide, the number of travelers is expected to reach around 4.67 million people. AAA Michigan is estimating that approximately 1.2 million Michiganders will travel 50 miles or more from their homes to destinations to enjoy the holiday weekend. “During this time of year, storms are popping up all over the place, so you wanna be prepared for that, for delays, and also make sure you have an emergency kit in your vehicle, just in case you might need that”, DPS Trooper Justin Baker says. Even though people can get maps on their phones, cell service might not be the best along those long stretches of highway.

According to the Auto Club, a record of 849,000 travelers are expected to pass through Los Angeles International Airport this weekend, marking today and Monday as the busiest days. That’s 8.1 percent more than in 2015, which set the previous record of 785,000, according to LAX officials.

Travel site Orbitz.com predicts that LAX will be the busiest airport in the country over the four-day weekend, as locals travel to destinations such as New York City, Chicago, San Francisco and Las Vegas.
