Report claims first Xbox One virtual reality game is coming in 2017

It also wasn’t explicitly stated that this game was in development for the rumored new Xbox One or if it would also be playable on the existing model, which doesn’t now offer VR support.

In a recently-released report, ArsTechnica has revealed that a virtual reality (VR) game for Microsoft’s Xbox One gaming console is being developed by an unidentified but “major” European game development studio. This information, which was provided by the developer as part of pre-E3 planning, was confirmed by a PR representative. Microsoft will also look to adapt a more PC like upgrade cycle that will see a refreshed console every 1 to 2 years. The site can’t share much more due to agreements with the developer, except that is a “new VR game set in the universe of an established long-running franchise”. Microsoft is expected to announce the new console at E3 this year, and the new title will likely debut there as well.

Rumor has it that Microsoft is developing a thinner Xbox One, which will be called the Xbox One Slim. A smaller upgrade will be released this year while a bigger one will be out in 2017.

All these reports about the new Microsoft gaming console seem interesting to any gamer or tech enthusiast, but unless the company makes the official announcement, it’s best to take the news with a pinch of salt.

Regardless, the focus right now is how powerful the next Xbox One will be considering the current console and the PS4 were classified as having “too limited” according to Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey back in 2013. There are also rumors suggesting that the console may come with 4K video support.

Players now on the fence about purchasing an Xbox One may want to hold out just a bit longer. As you might recall, recent reports have suggested that a new, more powerful Xbox One – which will be revealed at E3 next month and released in 2017 – will be compatible with the same Oculus Rift headsets that now run on Windows PCs.
