Pace says the Highway Patrol is preparing for an increase in traffic and congestion on the roadways.

Troopers will be out patrolling lakes and rivers this weekend just as they would the road. More than 1,200 people were arrested for DUI in CHP jurisdiction during the Memorial Day MEP.
The California Highway Patrol announced it will conduct a Maximum Enforcement Period, from tonight to Monday night.
“So numerous deaths and injuries that occur on the highway are completely preventable”, added Commissioner Farrow.
“The Patrol will do our part to keep Ohioans safe on the roadways, especially over weekends that encourage higher amounts of travel”, said Colonel Paul A. Pride, Patrol superintendent. They will be cracking down on speeding and drinking and driving. “It is the greatest defense in a vehicle crash”, Rhonda Craft, director of the California Office of Traffic Safety, said in the release. Two-thirds of those killed in the CHP’s jurisdiction were not wearing seat belts. Seat belts save lives. Statistics show that 415 drivers or occupants who were unrestrained died in wrecks previous year. “Seat belts reduce serious crash-related injuries and death”, said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow.
The patrol is urging motorists to never drive impaired and always designate a sober driver.

In addition to Click It or Ticket, troopers also will join other law enforcement agencies in participating in the annual “On the Road, On the Water, Don’t Drink & Drive” campaign, an enforcement and public outreach initiative that consists of driving while impaired checkpoints near boating recreational venues. This is a toll free call that connects the caller to the nearest Highway Patrol communications center.
