Manchester United sign Jose Mourinho as chief coach for three seasons

Mourinho was named as Van Gaal’s replacement at Old Trafford on Friday, signing a three-year deal at the Premier League club after days of negotiations. The video above contains a number of memorable clips involving Mourinho at his very best in front of the cameras. United sweated the brand and upped their off-field business activity to the extent that they were able to find around £250m for new signings and can apparently do so again.

“José Mourinho is confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United. That’s proved successful and that’s what Manchester United are getting”.

His soccer philosophy – win at all costs, no matter the style – may also be at odds with United’s preference for free-flowing, attacking play.

Mourinho’s excitement to be taking over a club with a “mystique and a romance” is clear, as is his desire to revive United’s ailing fortunes. One team’s plan seems carefully drawn up and well thought out, the other is a little more hasty and impulsive, but who is to say which coach will finish higher in the Premier League next season? It could be his first public appearance as United manager.

His Chelsea teams that won the Premier League were devastating attacking forces at times, and Real Madrid’s league-winning team of 2011-12 under Mourinho scored 121 goals.

Media reports said he will have a £200 million fund to bring in fresh faces, with Chelsea’s Willian, former Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Everton defender John Stones reportedly on top of his wish list.

In addition to Rashford and Fosu-Mensah, the Dutch coach handed bows to Guillermo Varela, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, FA Cup final goalscorer Jesse Lingard, and many more.

“This is Jose Mourinho’s most exciting and most challenging job yet”, the former England centre half wrote on his Facebook page. “But the reality is that what I love is to work”, he added.

“We’ve had two managers who have tried and failed”. He is now entangled in a legal case with former Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro, whom Mourinho undermined by accusing her of being “naive” for treating an injured player on the field during a Premier League game.
