Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders essentially will split the state’s delegates based on Clinton’s thin margin of victory in the state’s May 17 primary election.

Declining to participate in the Fox News debate – which Sanders had agreed to – is another clear sign that Clinton and her top aides are fully focused on the general election against Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.

Sanders said he had a “shot” at winning the June 7 California primary against Hillary Clinton and said, given his delegate deficit, it was “imperative” that he perform well.

Sanders’ campaign tentatively accepted the invitation last week under the assumption they could reach a “mutual agreement” with Clinton. Both Sanders and Clinton agreed to a total of four more debates back in February, three of which have been held already. So far, the two candidates have had three of the four debates the agreed to, the last being in NY on CNN.

The latest Fox News poll also show Trump leading by 3 points.

For Hillary Clinton, this means highlighting a recording of Trump saying he hopes for a housing collapse because he could profit from buying discounted property.

Bernie Sanders has always been an outspoken opponent of the type of information disseminated on Fox News.

“I also would suggest that Secretary Clinton may want to be not quite so presumptuous about thinking that she is a certain victor”, he said.

The Institute for Policy and Opinion Research surveyed 610 likely Virginia voters in the last two weeks. “If she is able to take the nomination, she’ll have to work hard to win over some of those Sanders supporters to maintain her lead in Florida”. Others say they are waiting until their state’s primary or caucus are complete.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s polls also showed that many Americans will not like their next president – if it is either Mr Trump or Mrs Clinton.

Trump met with 80,000 members of the National Rifle Association to launch a united front against Clinton. “Unfortunately for Clinton, not even the pages of Vogue could portray her disaster of a campaign in a good light”. In addition to the public event in Sacramento, Bill Clinton headlined a fundraiser for his wife’s campaign at the home of former state Treasurer Phil Angelides.
