SAHARANPUR-Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asserted that a mood of hope pervaded the country replacing hopelessness that prevailed under the UPA rule as he pitched his government as one dedicated to the poor and farmers which prevented the “loot” of public money. The highlight of the celebrations were a mega show at India Gate titled “Ek Nayi Subah” or “A New Dawn” began at 5 pm on Saturday evening. “The common people can analyse all the work the government had done and they can decide what is right and wrong”, said the Prime Minister.
Mr. Modi and his ministers are now participating in meetings, discussions in various forums and are attending interviews in several media, to explain to the people as to what they have done and what they propose to do in the next three years. He said for good governance it is imperative for the government to trust its citizens. Modi also said he would look to states to further liberalise the country’s rigid labour laws, the daily reported.
“When I came to the government, I used to sit down with all the experts and ask them to define for me what is the “big bang” for them”, he said, adding “Nobody could tell me”. He said, “those who were earlier looting the nation are not enthused by this government”. One is “Vikasvad” (development) and the other is “Virodhvad” (opposition).
The government, which had also organised a “Talkathon” last year to mark its first anniversary, has hired event management company Geometry Global Encompass Network for this year’s programme.
With India facing a shortage of doctors and public hospitals, the premier urged private practitioners to dedicate one day a month to helping pregnant women in rural areas, who often die in childbirth due to poor access to healthcare.
Mr Jaitley said his government also rationalised the tax regime and the current tax rates in the country are “very competitive”. “Farmers are committing suicide but Modi government could not bring relief to them”, Surjewala said. “It created a social movement with initiatives like Namami Gange, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Swachh Bharat”, he said.
We dream of Team India”, the Prime Minister said, promising that, “This is just the beginning.
Noting that sometimes he comes across criticism, which has no basis, Modi said that the evaluation of his government has to be done in the context of the functioning of the previous governments.

He also touched upon financial inclusion schemes for the poor like Jan Dhan Yojana and Mudra Yojana. “The government has provided the road connectivity in seven lakh villages in the country”, he added. Minister of state for home Kiren Rijuju said the ministry had activated the Nirbhaya Fund and ensured it began to deliver results.
