Matt Harvey to make next start despite struggles
It was their first hit off of Stephen Strasburg, who retired the first 10 batters of the game.

Harvey dropped to 3-7 and his ERA skyrocketed to 6.08 in 10 starts after he allowed five runs in five innings against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. After averaging over a strikeout per inning in his career, that has dropped to 7.4 per nine while his hits allowed per nine innings has skyrocketed to 12.3, five more than last season.
Last season, Strasburg spent two stints on the disabled list and was 3-5 before bouncing back.
“Again. I am going to stand by the fact, this guy is going (go through) a period of time where he has to let that body recuperate from what he did a year ago”, Collins said. “I am definitely trying to learn from that, to try to ride the roller coaster and stay consistent”.
Harvey has to own it in the room, and it’s never too late to do that, even if newspaper deadlines have come and gone, and Twitter cycles have spun around.
On Wednesday, manager Terry Collins said the Mets will keep Harvey in his normal spot in the rotation. Consider his conquest of the Nationals, which cemented a much-needed series victory when things aren’t exactly sailing smoothly for the Mets. “I think the best path is to have him continue to start games for us”.
Harvey left the clubhouse Tuesday night without speaking to reporters.
His early departure from the scene mirrored his performance on the mound.
Roark allowed seven runs in five innings against Miami on May 14 but was a different pitcher at the Marlins five days later.
“I’m really surprised”, Collins said. Maybe it works for some guys, but the good, winning teams I’ve been on, it’s unselfishness and accountability.
Los Angeles’ Clayton Kershaw pitched his third shutout of the season, steering the Dodgers past Cincinnati 1-0 for their eighth straight win over the Reds.
“It means he’s one of the best out there and he’s pitching like it”, manager Dusty Baker said.
Ben Revere connected off Antonio Bastardo in the seventh and Wilson Ramos went deep against Jim Henderson in the eighth for Washington. The Mets had a four-game winning streak come to an end with Tuesday’s setback. Washington leads NY by a half-game in the NL East after losing two of three.
Two pitches later, Brian Dozier hit one into the second deck in left for his fifth homer of the year and a quick 2-0 lead for the Twins. It was Wright’s sixth home run of the season and his second in the series.
Archbishop Spalding pitcher Tyler Blohm was named the Maryland Gatorade State Baseball Player of the Year.
Roark has made 11 appearances (six starts) against the Mets in his career, going 5-0 with a 3.05 ERA.
NFL: The Minnesota Vikings cut running back Brandon Ross (Maryland) on Monday. Villar scored as Nick Markakis’ throw to the plate from right field was up the third-base line. Crews will fight China’s Xiaoli Yang at 7 a.m. Thursday.
