Trump revealed his “American first” energy plan just hours after initial reports stating he had won the number of delegates needed to secure the Republican presidential nomination.

Another of the Obama administration’s faults is opposing the U.S.-Canada Keystone XL pipeline, which he said would boost the nation’s energy efficiency and would have no effect on the environment, whatsoever. “That’s how we’re going to make our country rich again”.

Trump, known for his off-the-cuff style, used a teleprompter throughout his energy speech, though at moments seemed to go off script when taunting Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and President Obama.

“We have to look at the global playing field and see which of our partners – OPEC, Iran, Russia – are playing fair in the global marketplace”, Trump advisor Congressman Kevin Cramer explained.

Mr Trump slammed them in his speech, saying their policies would kill jobs and force the USA “to be begging for oil again” from the Middle East.

North Dakota Democrats issued statements Thursday blasting the state’s Republican for supporting Trumps “brand of fear, ignorance, and hatred”. “It may not be in the form of (the) dirty industry of the past, and I think any candidate that isn’t pushing for a clean energy agenda is moving us backwards”.

“Through these goals, we will increase the amount of installed solar capacity by 700% by 2020, expand renewable energy to at least a third of all electricity generation, prevent thousands of premature deaths and tens of thousands of asthma attacks each year, and put our country on a path to achieve deep emission reductions by 2050”, Clinton’s website boasts.

“Hillary is going to ban fracking. Every single candidate either denies global warming altogether or, in one case, [John] Kasich, admits that it’s taking place but says we shouldn’t do anything about it, which is even worse”, stated Chomsky, world-renowned political dissident, linguist, author.

On the topic of crude exports, Trump said he would “open it up so [producers] can sell it, but then it will be up to people like Harold [Hamm]”.

Trump said at the press conference that if elected he would also seek to reduce regulation on the energy industry to make drillers and coal companies more competitive. “That’s not going to happen, not with me. At the same time, we will work with our Gulf allies to develop a positive energy relationship as part of our anti-terrorism strategy”, Trump said.

Trump was speaking at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference where spoke to energy professionals from around the country about the challenges facing North Dakota’s oil and gas industry.

He also told the audience he wanted the USA to be energy independent and less dependent on foreign oil.
