Tourism officials estimate between 300,000-500,000 visitors will travel to Rio during the Olympics.
“From 1pm (Brasília time) today, the tickets will begin to be sent out from the graphic design company and somewhere in the world someone will receive the first ticket”, said Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman.
“They represent the moment of the best performance of the athlete, so the spectators can feel they have something that represents a passport for this historic, unique celebration”.
Brazil, a country of about 204 million people with the largest Catholic population in the world, is a pioneer in the fight against AIDS and offers free treatment to 730,000 HIV-positive people in the country. “We cancelled these and managed to prevent the illegal sale of more than 700 tickets over the black market”, said Ferreti.
Mr Ferretti said the eventual number available would be between 6.6-6.7 million as the capacity of venues for swimming, rowing and canoeing have been reduced.
Every Thursday Rio 2016 continues to put new tickets on their website for Brazilians to purchase.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – Rio de Janeiro Olympics organizers say they have sold 67 percent of available tickets.
Only 24 percent of Paralympic Games tickets have been sold so far.
“We can only release the tickets if we can guarantee the seats are going to be there”, he said.
