Man Utd boss Mourinho boasts ‘big clubs need big managers’

Mourinho first came to global prominence in 2004 when, as Porto coach, he charged down the touchline at Old Trafford in celebration of a winning goal by his team against United in a Champions League match.

He also won league championships in his first seasons at Porto and Inter Milan before helping Real Madrid to their first La Liga crown in four years. A giant club must be for the best managers and I think I’m ready for it. “He has won trophies and inspired players in countries across Europe and, of course, he knows the Premier League very well, having won three titles here”, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said in a statement.

However, Carrick, who has won 34 caps for England, thinks the 18-year-old has a big future in the national side, even if he misses out on this summer’s tournament in France. It is understood this is United so each party expects Ibrahimovic to play for the club next season. It will certainly be an interesting ride for supporters as Mourinho looks to take United back to the top. “I think the players need to listen – I want to win”.

I have always felt an affinity with Old Trafford; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans.

“I feel great”, Mourinho told the club’s in-house television station MUTV.

Jose Mourinho’s appointment was met with approvals aplenty from United legends as the likes of Andy Cole, Peter Schmeichel and Rio Ferdinand lauded the decision via social media.

“You know, I think I know what they can give me”. There was no immediate news on the make-up of Mourinho’s backroom staff. Mourinho should get similar financial support to make additions to a squad that has some obvious deficiencies.

Mourinho added he was eager to draw a line under the last three years for United.

After seemingly falling out with his senior players at Chelsea, not to mention the relentless attacks with feminists following the Eva Carneiro incident, Jose Mourinho was hounded out of Stamford Bridge midway through the season. Twelve years later, he returns to the stadium as United’s manager.

The Sweden striker has a “great relationship” with Mourinho after working together at Inter Milan and said with a smile “let’s see what happens” when asked on Thursday if he had an offer from United.
