Bryan Singer Says No X-Men: Apocalypse Alternate Cut is Coming

Sophie Turner has made her mark on Game of Thrones as fan favorite Sansa Stark, and now she’s putting the power behind a young version of mutant superheroine Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse.

It’s not long before the mayhem they generate comes to the attention of Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) – leader of the X-Men, advocate for peaceful relations between humans and mutants and sometime ally of Magneto, whose take on humanity is significantly less charitable.

James McAvoy, who plays Professor X in X-Men: Apocalypse, says his character would fit in just right in a Deadpool sequel. While you do focus on one villain (plus sidekicks), each mutant’s storyline demands screen time and exposition that must be properly integrated to maintain cinematic flow.

The highest grossing film in the $2.3 billion franchise is “X-Men: The Last Stand”, which debuted over Memorial Day weekend in 2006 and earned $102 million over the regular weekend and $122.8 million over the extended.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” hits the theatres on May 27, Friday.

Still, reviewers have praised some of the new casting choices for the film and performances by returning stars Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender.

Essentially, the screenplay (credited to series veteran Simon Kinberg, from a story by him, Singer, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris) follows one major through-line: the world’s first and most powerful mutant, Apocalypse, has awoken after thousands of years. And I was like, “I know this sounds silly, this is really embarrassing but, have you guys ever, like – god this is so embarrassing – lactated from your nipples?” We met Rose Byrne as CIA Agent Moira McTaggart five years ago in X-Men: First Class.

To explain, I have to ruin another big surprise in the movie so, obviously…

Teenage Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan), aka Cyclops, is brought to the school because he has no clue how to keep his mutant power – deadly beams from his eyes – under control. I love Oscar Isaac, but he looked like a cartoon character and he wasn’t the least bit imposing.

USA Today’s Brian Truitt calls X-Men: Apocalypse “just X-meh” and gives the movie two out of four stars. This one takes us into the past and the distant past. Would you like to see the old gang back together, or is it time to move on? After he is freed by Jean Grey, Wolverine goes on a killing spree and murders the staff and guards at the facility.
