Willard Hurley drove away from his Leesburg, Va., home on July 19 and did not give any indication he was leaving, Billy Hurley said Tuesday at a news conference before the Quicken Loans National. It wasn’t necessarily a big deal until nine days later, when his family, including his wife and his son, Billy Hurley III, a PGA golfer, still hadn’t heard from him. The photo of Hurley’s father was widely disseminated, getting hundreds of thousands of views on social media.
In a tearful plea, pro golfer Billy Hurley III asked for the public’s help Monday.
“I did make the cut so I think that I will try and continue to play”, said the American, who has recorded just one top-10 in 25 starts on the 2014-15 PGA Tour, a tie for eighth at the CIMB Classic in November. “Mr. Hurley did not wish to reveal the reasons behind his departure”.
