Molino scores in stoppage time, Orlando City ties NYCFC 2-2

Orlando City SC has already found the smaller dimensions at Yankee Stadium to its liking.

David Villa’s embarrassing miss from the penalty spot came back to haunt New York City FC on Sunday as Orlando took full advantage of the let-off to fight back for a 2-2 draw in Major League Soccer.

The teams last played in March and Orlando City won the game 0 – 1.

But after the rocket start, NYCFC started to gain control of the match, and Orlando City, like most teams that visit the Bronx, found it tough to hold possession and build any sort of unsafe attacks.

Frederic Brillant scored for NY in the 42nd minute and Villa grabbed his ninth of the season in the 66th minute, taking a pass from Andrea Pirlo and then chipping over Orlando goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

But Spanish star Villa slipped and botched a penalty in the 70th minute after a handball in the area by Seb Hines.

And Orlando City wasn’t done there. The Trinidadian ran right through Baptista’s attempt of a bicycle kick to knock in the game-tying goal.

The hosts squandered a two-goal lead at Yankee Stadium, missing a chance to pull level on points with Eastern Conference leader Philadelphia a week after being ripped 7-0 by the New York Red Bulls in the Big Apple derby.
