Knights forward and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Mitch Marner was named the Canadian Hockey League’s player of the year on Saturday. Red Deer beat Rouyn-Noranda 5-2 on Sunday in the four-team tournament.

Both goaltenders were outstanding, going save-for-save right down to the end.

Knights goaltender Tyler Parsons enters the championship with the best numbers at the tournament, a 1.79 goals-against average and.

The game was something that the Rouyn-Noranda squad should be proud of, despite falling short of the ultimate prize. We knew what we had to do being down a goal and once we got thing to overtime we had the momentum on our side.

“My guys played like champions”, said Bouchard.

“We’re hosting the event inside the arena area, so we’ll have the bleachers available, there will be tables and chairs available on the arena floor, and of course two large screens”, said Heather Blackwell, Director of Corporate Affairs at the Western Fair District. Marner and Dvorak broke in on a two-on-one, but Marchand was there to turn Marner away. “That was the first one to win in London”.

The Huskies outshot the Knights 16-10 in the second.

The Huskies almost climbed ahead in the period’s 12th minute as Alexandre Fortin gained himself time and space in the slot, glancing a shot off the crossbar past a screened Parsons as the London goaltender scrambled to smother the rebound and preserve the 1-1 stalemate. The lead lasted only 15 seconds as Perron beat Parsons from the goal crease.

“Everybody’s really excited and feel the Knights are going to win, so who knows, it could be a much larger turnout for the venue”.

“We could have won that game”. It was his tournament-leading seventh goal at the Memorial Cup.

Myers already appeared to be hobbling coming into the game.

It’s London’s second Memorial Cup in franchise history.
