Southampton complete deal for QPR’s star defender
Southampton have signed Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker on a season-long loan deal, the club has announced.

“I’m very pleased and very excited”.
As I said in my season (p)review a few weeks ago (and I’m planning on getting back to that, hopefully just before Charlton away), Caulker had a miserable season with the R’s in 2014-15.
Southampton’s rapid ascent has seen them go from League One to the Europa League in just four years – but Koeman is sure his players are ready for their return to the continental stage. However, I was of the opinion that if he stayed with the club this year, he and CB partner Nedum Onuoha would have been arguably the best centre-back pairing in the entire Championship.
“Steven will offer us an excellent defensive option – especially with Florin Gardos ruled out after his knee operation”.
“We know to reach the group stage we have to win two qualification rounds and it’s all about what we did last season”, Koeman said.
Caulker has suffered back to back relegations with Cardiff City and QPR but Southampton will be confident that they won’t be making it a hat-trick.
He added: “As soon as I got the phone call to say a fee was agreed with Southampton, I was delighted to get the opportunity to come and play under a great manager“.
Caulker, who has already represented England at senior level, as well as Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics, was excited to join the ‘ambitious” club and to play for a “great’ manager in Ronald Koeman.
‘The last two years have been disappointing.
Sheesh, I even took the time to google how old Chiriches actually was when we signed him (24) and still typed the wrong age.
