Volunteers needed to place flags at national cemetery

Monti’s son Jared was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2006, awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously, and is buried at the cemetery and Monti says the tribute began as a tribute to his hero son.

Flags were also placed at the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery in Washington D.C.

Biloxi National Cemetery was established in 1934.

Visitors will find a 60-foot granite Civil War Soldiers and Sailors monument that was erected in 1903 and sculpted by local craftsmen.

It is the sound of military musicians joining the national Memorial Day concert on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol. “And I’m always happy around Memorial Day to see all the extra decorations and the flags and all that stuff at each and every gravesite”.

“We’ve got a lot of former soldiers who are now officers in the fire department”, said Lt. Jason Rains.

A second Memorial Day ceremony will take place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery near Lake Springfield, starting at 1:30 p.m.

“You know the people who have given up their lives for our freedom. We have over 250 volunteers that flag the graves today”, said Chairman of the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse Ken Birnbaum.

“I have two uncles that are in the cemetery that have served the service and I have another uncle that served the service as well”, Volunteer Cindy Loveless said.
