Milwaukee Brewers’ Chase Anderson reacts after being hit by a pitch during the fifth inning of a baseball game against the Cincinnati Reds Saturday, May 28, 2016, in Milwaukee. The right-hander loaded the bases with no outs after hitting a batter and allowing two singles. “The reason was because the pitcher was ejected and there was that time”. Though Brandon Finnegan (1-3, 3.97 ERA) hasn’t won since April 16, he gave up a run in eight innings of a 1-0 loss against Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
“Yeah, we kept fighting”. “It’s nice to get up there and have a guy on base every time you get up to hit”.
“It’s not anything about who you’re playing”.
On the 9th inning play, Scooter Gennett didn’t keep his foot on the bag while making the turn.
“You can do the go-after-the-crew-chief challenge – you know after the seventh you have it at your disposal, from the seventh on”, Price said. Reds video coordinator Rob Coughlan studied the replays. “We just weren’t able to finish it off”, Price said.
Villar has been a pleasant surprise for the Brewers. That kind of thing can play with a hitter’s mind and help get a pitcher through rough spots.
“I guess I just have to do a better job of staying on just a tick longer, ” he said.
Cincinnati scratched their way for the go-ahead run off typically tough reliever Jeremy Jeffress (1-1).
Blake Wood (4-1) tossed two scoreless innings for the win. He allowed only two second-inning runs in raising his record to 5-3. Anderson got out of the inning by getting Zack Cozart to bounce out to first.
The play went to replay and the umpires reversed their original call of an inning-ending double play. “It doesn’t matter if you’re out of challenges”. It doesn’t matter if we are rebuilding or not. “I think we can”.
Plate umpire James Hoye immediately ejected Simon after he plunked Anderson on the left shoulder leading off the fifth. The Brewers later got out of that jam.
“We kept adding and (Davies) kept putting up zeros”, manager Craig Counsell said. Anderson said he rushed his delivery as he saw Holt break.
Lucroy said Anderson wasn’t trying to hit Simon intentionally. “I tried to rush and I slipped and the ball slipped out of my hand”, Anderson said.
Simon reportedly didn’t comment when asked if he hit Anderson on goal.
For the last few weeks, most of Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price’s pregame chats with the media consisted of a lengthy rundown of player rehabilitation progress reports.
