“It is unknown at this time if this incident is connected to the victim’s employment as a State Correction Officer”, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook. His name has not yet been released.

When he picked up the package it exploded, burning his hands and arms. The 52-year-old victim was first taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and then was later transferred to SUNY Upstate Medical Center.
Again, it’s unclear whether the package or the explosion were related to the man’s work in New York’s prison facilities.
The package was left at the end of the officer’s driveway in the town of Floyd, in upstate NY on Sunday morning and exploded, burning his hands and arms, as he picked it up, said Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol. Authorities are also refusing to reveal whether or not the man had tried to open the package before it exploded. “The New York State Police and New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision are assisting the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and federal law enforcement agencies.” .
“I heard the loud boom, and I was scared”, resident Patricia Westcott said by phone.
The explosion shook neighbors in the quiet town of about 3,800, a bedroom community for the old industrial cities of Rome and Utica.
Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies, State Police, Floyd firefighters, and Amcare Ambulance personnel initially responded to the incident.
