Royals Come Back Again, Sweep White Sox With 5-4 Win

Kansas City Royals’ Brett Eibner celebrates after hitting the game-winning single during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, May 28, 2016, in Kansas City, Mo. They won 7-5 on Friday after trailing 5-1 entering the bottom of the sixth; they won 8-7 on Saturday with the miracle seven-run rally in the ninth; and then won 5-4 on Sunday after trailing Chris Sale 4-2 through seven innings. On Saturday, they scored seven times in the ninth and won 8-7.

Kansas City (26-22), which recorded eight comeback wins during last year’s run to a World Series title, also has been without designated hitter Kendrys Morales for the last three games due to a sprained finger.

“If that’s our worries right now, is our bullpen, I think we’re in a great spot”, said Chris Sale, who left with a 4-2 lead after seven innings.

Kansas City’s Salvador Perez was injured in the ninth when third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert slid with a forearm and elbow into the left thigh of the All-Star catcher, who called off Chien-Ming Wang (3-0), settled under Adam Eaton’s foul popup about 30 feet from the plate near the thirdbase line and snagged the ball just before he was hit. They wonder if this team is headed down a similar path to the past three seasons as the White Sox have dropped 14 of 18 with their six-game lead vanished and turned into a one-game deficit. Clay Buchholz (3-5) pitched one inning in his first relief appearance since August 17, 2008.

Royals: RHP Edinson Volquez (5-4) has a 2.06 ERA at home this season and a 6.55 ERA on the road. His squad would ultimately score three runs in the inning to take the lead.

CUBS 4, PHILLIES 1 (at Chicago) – Kyle Hendricks pitched a five-hitter for his second career complete game, leading the Cubs to their fourth straight win. A’s starter Rich Hill, who left the game with an apparent left shoulder injury, went 6 1/3 innings to win his fifth consecutive start, allowing 2 runs and 5 hits. Correa got a run-scoring hit in the 13th inning for the second time in six games, following up his game-ending single against Baltimore on Tuesday.

Lorenzon Cain started the rally with a solo home run in the eighth to cap a 2-for-4 day with two runs scored and two driven in. Ben Zobrist had two hits, including an RBI double, to extend his streak to 14 games. Hosmer has six RBIs in the first two games of the series.

Darvish (1-0) missed the 2015 season after having Tommy John surgery last March. Garcia singled home Brett Lawrie with the first run of the inning.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Adam Wainwright pitched seven gritty innings and made an ample contribution at the plate, hitting a two-run double to help St. Louis defeat Washington. He has a 3.74 ERA this year with a 1.38 WHIP.
