The last Monday in May has since been designated as Memorial Day.

The annual Memorial Day parade commences at 10 a.m. Monday and organizers are asking all veterans, active duty, Reservists, Guardsman and ROTC students to march in the procession.

The service will conclude with a rifle volley by the VFW and American Legion, followed by taps and a bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace”. American Legion Post 56 will conduct its Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at Park Hill Cemetery.

The parade is on Monday at 11 a.m., from the Greenmont Avenue School to the high school.

While Veterans Day honors everyone who served in the United States Military, Memorial Day is celebrated on May 30 to honor those who died in combat.

This year, veterans from the VFW and the American Legion are honoring Sal Moffa of Haskell as the Parade grand marshal.

Next the VFW and Post members will visit Maplewood Cemetery, 4585 Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road, with a service beginning at 9:45 a.m.

The program is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday (May 29) at the Pavilion in Pioneer Park.

Despite so many outstanding community events happing in Preston County this weekend, we all need to take time out for our friends and family who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The parade will step off at 10 a.m. from Oswego 308 Center (the old Traughber Junior High) on Franklin Street.

In Oswego, American Legion Post 675 will sponsor their annual parade and veterans’ memorial ceremony in the Oswego Township Cemetery.
