Unlike the three other grand slams, Roland Garros does not have a retractable roof on at least one court.

Men were slated to complete their fourth today, and that will mean top half players like Novak Djokovic will have to win four best-of-5 matches in six days to capture the title, if the tournament keeps its Sunday men’s final.

Now only two men’s quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday, defending champion Stan Wawrinka’s showdown with Albert Ramos Vinolas and second seed Andy Murray’s highly-anticipated duel with French favourite Richard Gasquet.

She first competed at the French Open as a teen in 1997.

Monday’s play was due to start at 10:00 BST, but the action was delayed before being called off completely about 12:45.

This is not the first time that the rain caused inconvenience at the season’s second major, with showers delaying and postponing quite a few matches in the tournament’s first week as well. “So I’m just – just hoping that, you know, things will go well in the future”.

Eight last-16 matches planned for Monday plus two more which had been held over from Sunday will now be played on Tuesday.

Djokovic will instead face Roberto Bautista Agut on Tuesday, when he’ll look to earn a seventh straight trip to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

But Rogers, who is on the side of the draw opposite to Keys and the Williams sisters, is already through to the quarterfinals. “That’s why we sent back the players so early”, Forget said.

The 34-year-old takes on Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina who is being advised in Paris by Justine Henin, one of Williams’ former great rivals on the tour and a four-time French Open champion. Wimbledon and the Australian Open have covered courts and the U.S. Open will do the same for the first time this year.

Organizers said matches would be rescheduled for Tuesday.

Venus Williams faces Swiss eighth seed Timea Bacsinszky, a semi-finalist a year ago.

The victor of that match will take on either Spanish 12th seed Carla Suarez Navarro or Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, who put an end to Karin Knapp’s run which had seen the Italian take out an injured Victoria Azarenka in the first round.

Meanwhile, the Simona Halep-Samantha Stosur and Tsvetana Pironkova-Agnieszka Radwanska ties hang in the balance with both matches also set to be completed tonight.
