Community Members Prepare for Memorial day at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery

In Henderson, Kentucky, early on Saturday, a driver ploughed through a Memorial Day cross display meant to honour 5,000 veterans of conflicts dating back to the Revolutionary War. According to Mansfield Memorial Park Manager Robert Barnett, each of the flags once draped the casket of a veteran who is buried in the park. Roberts said that approximately 350 Desert Storm veterans and their families will attend the concert.
Sadly missing was the name of the current principal, Shira Dowling, who has worked tirelessly to ensure that the new school would be opened on time and built to represent the needs of the students and faculty alike.
As Southern states take down Confederate flags and statuary, Stewart’s name and memory will adorn a highway here once named for Jefferson Davis, who led the Confederate States of America.
The placement came in advance of Monday Memorial Day Services at the cemetery planned by American Legion Post 77. Their individual names may be unknown to the masses, but their deeds and sacrifices on this day are recognized and remembered in ceremonies across our nation.
“Without our veterans, we would be in very big trouble”, Barnett said.
A brief wreath-laying service will be held at the monuments at Sloan Park, but the full service will be in Butler Park by the monuments.
Cities and towns across the United States host Memorial Day parades each year, often incorporating military personnel and members of veterans’ organizations.
