The Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.

Coroner’s investigators on Friday identified the body as Dave Hebron, 42.

Authorities received reports a man went missing Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. Witnesses said he was swimming in the Mississippi River near the Jax Brewery building when he went under and never resurfaced.

The Coast Guard had suspended a search for Hebron on Wednesday after crews canvassed more than 230 square miles.

Witnesses in the area told police that the items, which included a shirt, socks, boots and a cell phone, belonged to the subject who was still in the river.

Hebron’s mother told police that her son had been staying at a homeless shelter after traveling to New Orleans from Jena.

NOPD PIO Juan Barnes said that a man was strolling along the Moon Walk when he saw two unknown white men swimming in the river near St. Peter Street and Decatur Street.
