Microsoft’s Windows 10 upgrade criticised by Chinese users

The move follows the announcement that Microsoft was selling its “dumb” phone business to a subsidiary of Foxconn for $350 million (around £240 million, or AU$480 million), which was seen as the first – or last, depending on how you look at it – sign that Microsoft was exiting the phone business altogether. As usual we are going to discus many stories from the Microsoft. “We heard a lot of feedback about having to reboot to complete the upgrade so starting with this build a reboot is no longer required when upgrading from the Pro to Enterprise edition”, wrote Gabe Aul, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Engineering Systems group, in a blog post.

It is irrefutable that Windows 10 is a great operating system, but the tactics Microsoft has been using to push the free upgrade to eligible users are becoming more than a little reminiscent of those favored by malware peddlers, according to a post from Cybershack.

Limited Periodic Scanning will come turned off by default in Windows 10 Anniversary Edition.

In general, if you want to run an antivirus program on your PC, you have a choice: run Microsoft’s built-in Windows Defender, or something else. Microsoft initially offered Windows 10 as an optional upgrade – that is, one that users had to choose themselves.

Before starting an installation, back up all of your data. Similarly, the controversial gimmick with the upgrade prompt-box resulted in Microsoft allowing users to cancel their Windows 10 upgrade request the traditional way. Services like Backblaze and CrashPlan are handy tools for making backups.

Brian Denslow, a technician for Tech Collective, an information technology consulting company in San Francisco, said his experience upgrading clients to Windows 10 had been smooth. Denslow said the machines that tended to have problems were cheap computers that cost $300 or less, like budget models made by Acer or Asus. Why would we want to use Win 10 with more ads?

Gamers, too, receive a boost: full-screen Windows Game bar support for some perpetual hits like League of Legends and World of Warcraft. A new version tells PC owners they are scheduled for a “recommended” upgrade to Windows 10 at a specific time in the near future, and bears a prominent “OK” button.

The pop-up was allegedly changed by Microsoft so that closing it by clicking on the “x” in its top- right corner was taken as permission for the scheduled upgrade to start.
