It was left to Matuidi to open the scoring in the 21st minute, twisting to connect with Kingsley Coman’s cross and firing home a great first-time volley.

Striker Olivier Giroud put the home side ahead from a Paul Pogba cross four minutes before the break.

France manager Didier Deschamps has hailed West Ham United star Dimitri Payet after his match-winning free-kick against Cameroon, reports FourFourTwo.

Deschamps and Co. prevailed 3-2 thanks to Dimitri Payet’s 90th-minute free-kick in Monday’s worldwide friendly. “But Olivier scored again tonight”, he said.

In the second half France looked to slow down the pace of the game after a frenetic opening 45 minutes. However, a furious finish saw Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting make it 2-2 just before the end of regulation time.

Versatile defender Jeremy Mathieu and centre-back Raphael Varane have been ruled out of the tournament with injuries.

The second half proved relatively uneventful until Choupo Moting equalised from close range two minutes from time before Payet popped up with the victor at the death. “So I don’t really understand it, but the important thing was that we won, and I’ve continued my little personal run”.

But Cameroon hit back when Aboubakar shrugged off center half Adil Rami – making his first global appearance for three years – and turned in Allan-Romeo Nyom’s cross from the right.

However Payet was given a starting role in a strong France side, with only Champions League finalist Antoine Griezmann unavailable to Deschamps. Les Bleus will face Scotland in their final warm-up game on 4 June in Metz.
