Jose Mourinho is Manchester United’s “biggest ever signing” and will improve the players at his disposal, according to former Chelsea and Old Trafford chief executive Peter Kenyon.

The former Real Madrid boss has won three Premier League titles- all with Chelsea but his departures in 2007 and 2015 have both been shrouded in disappointment.

A transfer saga that has dragged on for the best part of the second half of 2015/16 has finally been put to bed – Jose Mourinho is officially the manager of Manchester United.

Some have questioned whether Mourinho’s perceived style of play will satisfy United fans who crave attacking and stylish football but Carrick does not think that will be a problem and believes winning is more important.

Woodward has been in negotiations with Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, since Tuesday with personal terms agreed quickly.

“To become Manchester United manager is a special honor in the game”. It is a club known and admired throughout the world.

The Sweden striker has a “great relationship” with Mourinho after working together at Inter Milan and said with a smile “let’s see what happens” when asked on Thursday if he had an offer from United.

The Portuguese is expected to take his long-term backroom staff with him to Old Trafford. On Thursday the 34-year-old said he had already decided where to play next. It is understood this is United.

The Belgian midfielder who signed for Chelsea four years ago from Lille for £32m had a disappointing season by his standards.

‘One perspective is the past three years, and another prospective is the club’s history.

Kenyon’s most interesting take was on what Ryan Giggs should do next.

Calling on his new club to forget spluttering three years under David Moyes and Van Gaal, the Portuguese manager insisted that he is fully geared up to bring back the glory days at United.
