THE wait continues for confirmation of Louis van Gaal’s sacking after removal men were seen at potential Manchester United successor Jose Mourinho’s house.

Van Gaal failed to reach United’s minimum target of a top four finish which secures UEFA Champions League football.

“He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage”.

Club captain Wayne Rooney admitted the season had not been good enough, and said of Van Gaal: “He has been under pressure”.

The report also said that “severance terms” for van Gaal, who only expended two years of the three-year deal he had, is already under discussions.

Van Gaal’s imminent exit comes two days after he lifted the first trophy of his tenure with FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace.

The former Chelsea boss has picked up three league titles, three League cups and one FA Cup during his two spells at Stamford Bridge and will be expected to deliver more silverware at Old Trafford during his time in charge.

His backroom staff of Max Reckers, Frans Hoek and Albert Stuivenberg have also been shown the door, but Ryan Giggs’ future is now unclear. Carragher said, as reported by Sky Sports.

The writing had been on the wall for Van Gaal for some time, with consistently disappointing performances and results drawing criticism from fans and influential former players.

“Success (winning the league or Champions League) is what Manchester United demands, and added to that an attacking, quick, aggressive and imaginative style of football”.

The manager has a great success record and who knows, maybe that’s what United need.

The Portuguese has kept his counsel since renewed reports emerged on Saturday, while United have steadfastly refused to comment on speculation regarding their managerial situation.

The team’s goals per game ratio, especially at home, last season was lower than all their main rivals and they made more backward passes than any other team in the league.

This will be Mourinho’s eighth club job, after stints with Benfica (2000), Uniao de Leiria (2001-2002), Porto (2002-2004), Chelsea (2004-2007, 2013-2015), Inter Milan (2008-2010) and Real Madrid (2010-2013).
