Veterans memorials in 3 states vandalized
American Legion Post 156 Commander Alan Drinkwater says he hopes people will join the legion in remembering and honoring the men and women who died serving the country in times of conflict and war.

Several Memorial Day commemorations are scheduled for Monday. Many pools, public beaches and lakes, etc., open on this weekend, especially in the North. Events like the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 take place on the holiday as well.
“It’s sad and good to remember veterans, the ones that gave their lives for us to keep us free”, said Don Fogle.
“It means a lot to me that I lost a lot of good friends there, and this is the time that I pay my respects to them”, he said.
Post 147’s membership still includes a five World War II veterans, Blankin said, but most of the older vets served in Korea or Vietnam.

Strickland says there are events celebrating veterans around the state today, including one he will speak at in the Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary. “We have these freedoms in our country because of what our military has sacrificed”.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ceremony commemorates those who lost their lives during battle. We must never forget. “So they know we wouldn’t bother them, but we sure did scare them”, Neleigh told WJBF News Channel 6.
This year, Horseheads resident Bob Rohde served as Grand Marshall in the Horseheads Memorial Day parade.
Along with the people who continue to serve the United States of America each and every day.

Parade begins at 10 a.m.at the CMCS school, heads down North Street, ending at the American Legion on Church Street.
