He has made 181 appearances in total but lost his place to David Ospina for the second half of last season.

The Giallorossi have prioritised the signing of a new number one throughout the summer and the Polish global is their primary target.

And the 25-year-old could be surplus to requirements at the Emirates following the arrival of Petr Cech. Recent reports linked Szczesny with a move to Eredivisie with Marc Overmars, director of football at Ajax, contacting Arsenal regarding a possible deal.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is in the final stages of securing Szczesny, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport. The Serie A club are in the market for a new goalkeeper with Morgan De Sanctis set to hang up his boots at the end of next season.
