School regents came under fire for allowing Starr to stay on in the prominent role of chancellor for external fundraising. Baylor issued the statement Tuesday, May 24, 2016, after reports that President Ken Starr was sacked.

The fallout from the Baylor sexual assault scandal continued Wednesday with recently demoted university president Ken Starr telling ESPN he is resigning from his position as chancellor “as a matter of conscience”.
ESPN first reported the latest change at Baylor on Wednesday, noting that Starr will continue to teach in the law school.
The shake up comes as the university board of regents reviewed the findings from Pepper Hamilton, a lawfirm hired to investigate the school’s response to sexual assault.
“We need to put this frightful experience behind us”, Starr said in the ESPN interview.
Messages left with the university, as well as a university spokesperson for Starr, were not immediately returned to CNN Wednesday afternoon.
Baylor officials weren’t immediately available for comment.
“We need to heal Baylor”.
An investigation released last week found that under Starr’s leadership, Baylor did little to respond to accusations of sexual assault involving football players over several years.
The investigation found actions by Baylor administrators that directly discouraged students from reporting sexual assaults.
Starr apologized to the “victims who were not treated with the care, concern and support they deserve”. Since his removal last week, he had been transitioning into serving as chancellor, a role in which he was to have no operational duties.
Starr said he considered the Baylor campus to be a safe place for students.
